Westminster at Lake Ridge is a premier Continuing Care Retirement Community serving older adults in three levels of service: Independent Living, Assisted Living and a Health Center. Our team of roughly 220 total employees serves a population of over 400 total residents on 62 acres that back up to the Occoquan reservoir. We are currently seeking a compassionate, and experienced human services professional to join our team and community as an RN Supervisor on the afternoon 3pm-11pm shift. This position is primarily responsible for directing and evaluating all resident care given by the nurses within the Westminster community. Additional duties include administering disciplinary action and nursing care reporting.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Provides resident care in the form of treatment, medication, and diagnostic procedures as delegated by the Director of Nursing or designate physician. Initiates corrective action to resident care if assigned resident shows no sign of improvement. Informs the Director of Nursing of concerns or issues of the resident care and obtains approval for corrective action to be taken. Responds to emergency calls from the Care System paging system of the independent residents within 15 minutes of notification. Assess resident need and provides care as appropriate. Ensures that medications are distributed and additional treatments to all residents within the Nursing Center and Assisted Living Units.

Completes and distributes nursing reports to the Director of Nursing and the designate physician within the given time requirement. Receives resident report from previous shift nurses and ensures that all reports are recorded in the resident's chart and files at nursing station. Obtains any residents follow up report from current shift nurse and records sufficient information. Reports any necessary changes and/or follow up actions necessary to Director of Nursing. Provides upcoming shift nurses with the obtained resident report and any follow up or special care necessary. Documents in daily assignment report any orders given to nurses or assistants in regards to care of resident. Checks MARS and TARS weekly to ensure appropriate and accurate documentation.   Keeps record of all daily nursing staff for each shift and reports numbers to the Director of Nursing at the end of each day. Maintains Supervisor Checklist on a daily basis. Communication applicable information to staff as needed. Reviews all incident reports for completeness. Ensures new interventions are added as needed and that the documentation is accurate.      

Performs review of charts and resident information with all new admissions to the Nursing Center or Assisted Living Units. Obtains list of all new admissions to the nursing units within the Westminster community. Verifies all medical records and discusses concerns and treatment plans with resident or designated family member. Transcribes all medication and treatment orders to resident's chart within the same day of admission.

Acts as a leader and manager of assigned positions; ensuring productivity, efficiency and accuracy in work performed. Ensures initial and on-going training is provided to employees as needed; ensures cross-training is completed as appropriate. Identifies unacceptable performance and behavior exhibited by employees and takes appropriate action; utilizes progressive discipline policy when appropriate and maintains documentation as required. Delegates care tasks to all nurses based on qualification and competency of the nurse. Follows up with nurse of nurse assistant to ensure proper care and documentation has been provided. Assures that all nursing staff follows established policies and procedures at all times.

Maintains resident confidentiality and privacy at all times according to policies and procedures; uses discretion when discussing confidential matters. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior with residents, families, co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and other department staff. Maintains positive working relationships with management and coworkers; willingly follows directions and requests as appropriate. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures; seeks clarification or interpretation from appropriate supervisor when needed. Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in all relations with others.                       

Maintains all certifications necessary for employment. Maintains a current knowledge of federal, state and other regulations applicable to job.    Complies with Westminster at Lake Ridge's established safety rules and practices. Complies with applicable safety policies and procedures as prescribed by the organization, as well as government regulations. Reports any potential safety hazard(s) immediately to supervisor or other appropriate personnel. Reports any injury of resident, visitor, or employee immediately to supervisor or other appropriate personnel Provides assistance to resident, visitor, or employee in an emergency situation; following the proper emergency procedures.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing, three (3) to five (5) years nursing supervisory experience with Registered Nurse certification required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Incumbent should be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form, possess high-quality verbal and written communication ability, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and be knowledgeable on general nursing principles. Must be proficient in the operation of computer applications and Care System paging systems.
